Black Flag Racing did not begin with a launch plan, a trailer reveal, or a social media campaign.

It began with a conversation, a freezer, and a running 2007 Honda Accord.

At the time, the team needed a car that could survive long hours, harsh conditions, and repeated poor decisions without becoming a financial liability. The Accord was available. The owner wanted venison. An agreement was reached quickly, confidently, and without any legal review whatsoever.

That choice was not accidental. Endurance racing rewards cars—and teams—that can continue functioning when comfort, attention spans, and optimism begin to fail. The Accord was not fast, rare, or precious. It was durable, predictable, and emotionally disposable. In other words, it was perfect.

From that moment, two foundational principles were established—principles that still guide the team today:

Use what works.
Don’t complicate transactions unnecessarily.

Those principles map directly to Black Flag Racing’s approach to endurance competition. Speed is secondary to reliability. Momentary heroics are discouraged. Mechanical sympathy is valued. Every system is built to last longer than expected, every pit stop is designed to minimize mistakes, and every decision is weighed against one question: will this help us still be running hours from now?

Black Flag Racing’s growth in endurance racing is intentional. The team exists to learn how to push steadily, recover quickly, and operate effectively when things stop going according to plan—because that is what endurance racing ultimately demands.
